What is the London Ceilidh Club?

It’s a relaxed, informal, fun evening you can enjoy with friends, family and/or colleagues. You don’t need any experience, as the Ceilidh Band has a caller who tells you want to do. It’s a “gathering”… where you can meet new people. More importantly it’s a night when you can just forget about everything else and enjoy yourself.

It’s a place where you can get a wee bit of Scotland in London.

What’s a ceilidh and how do you pronounce it?

A ceilidh (‘kay-lee’) is the Gaelic word for a gathering. If anyone can remember the days before the internet, multichannel TV, mobiles, DVDs, laptops, Bluetooth, wireless and the rest, the main form of interaction between people was dancing, singing, music, poems and storytelling. The London Ceilidh Club tries to recreate this.

Do I need to know the steps?

No. There is a caller who will take you through the moves. It’s fun, hot and exhilarating. It’s great for the absolute beginner to the expert.

What sort of people go?

All sorts: Scottish, and all the nationalities under the sun. We are delighted so many people from so many different countries want to come along. The Ceilidh attracts people from all age groups, from babes in prams to great-grandmothers. It’s about attitude, not age.

How much are tickets?

Prices vary. For most Ceilidhs, they are £22.00-£25.00 which covers the cost of the venue, the band, and running the night, though ticket prices do increase and they’re more expensive at the door. Special nights (e.g. Burns Night etc) may have different prices. Check individual nights here for ticket prices at the time. Tickets are sold on a non-refundable, non-exchangeable basis.

Should I book in advance?

Yes. Ceilidhs are now very popular and sell out. Your name and ticket allocation will be on the door. You can then turn up any time and be assured of getting in.

Do I get a physical ticket?

No. All tickets are virtual. Please bring along your PDF ticket either electronically (on your phone) or you can print it out if you’re worried.

Where is it held?

Mostly at Chiswick Town Hall, Heathfield Terrace, Turnham Green, Chiswick, London W4 4JN. Additionally, we hold them at alternative venues. You can check here for dates and locations.

Do you have tickets on the door?
We sometimes have tickets on the door. Best to check though to avoid disappointment. Our events tend to sell out.
What is the schedule for the night?

Doors open at 7:00pm. Dancing starts at 7:30pm and finishes at 10:30pm with doors closing at 11:00pm. There’s a cloakroom, and a well-priced bar. You don’t need to dance all night! You can drop out after any dance and jump back in as a new dance starts. So you can easily top your drink up and just catch up with friends.

What should I wear?

Something comfy for dancing – it gets warm. Tartan is always appreciated and you look good in it too!

Anything else?

Please dance with consideration of others. Report any spillages you see. Have a great time.

Experiencing any Covid-19 symptons?

If you or a member of your household has had any Covid-19 symptoms in the 10-day lead-up to your event, please do not attend. Contact [email protected] and arrange something accordingly to our refunds policy.

If you wish to smoke, including e-cigarettes, you need to leave the area and will be readmitted afterwards.

Children are very welcome accompanied by their parents. Children under 10 go free.

Above that, they also need a valid ticket.

We don’t offer discounts for children.

We must insist that children (under 16s) are kept under control and not causing a nuisance to other audience members. If this does happen, the group they belong to will be asked to leave the area and may be asked to leave the event site if the problem persists or is severe.

We also advise parental discretion – some performances may not be suitable for under 16s so it is up to the parents/guardians, who must accompany them, whether or not they should be there.

We cannot guarantee that the MCs or performances will not use bad language.
